Train travellers face disruptions

Train passengers travelling between Gippsland and Melbourne will face significant disruptions for the next three weeks.
The Department of Transport advised trains would not operate on the Gippsland line from tomorrow (Friday) night until the last service on Sunday, June 25.
It announced buses would replace trains between Southern Cross, Traralgon and Bairnsdale stations, warning travellers to allow extra time - up to an hour - for their journey due to major works continuing along the metropolitan and regional train lines.
Bus services will not stop at Flinders St, Richmond, Caulfield, Clayton, Dandenong or Berwick stations. Those wishing to use these stations are advised to catch a metropolitan train service on the Pakenham line to connect with coach services at Pakenham or Southern Cross stations.
Buses will also replace metropolitan train services on sections of the Pakenham line at times from tomorrow to Wednesday, June 21.
The department said upgrade crews would complete underground boring, trenching and pipe installation works on the Gippsland line to install more than 4500m of cabling route between Nar Nar Goon and Warragul, and between Moe and Traralgon.
"These works will prepare the Gippsland line for a new signalling system which, in conjunction with completed track works and station upgrades already delivered as part of the project, will enable more services and also future-proof the line," it said.
While trains aren't running, work will progress on the level crossing removals on Webb St, Narre Warren; Brunt Rd, Beaconsfield; and McGregor Rd, Main St and Racecourse Rd in Pakenham," the department added.
"These crossings are being removed to improve safety, reduce road congestion and to allow more trains, more often."
