Stolen Mazda in crime spree

A stolen Mazda has been linked to thefts at seven locations across Warragul, as well as a collision last Tuesday afternoon.

Parcels, handbags and open garages were all targeted as up to three people travelling in a white Mazda CX9 with false registration plates committed thefts across a 90-minute period.
Police reported a resident chased off an attempted car thief in Gwinear Crt at about 3.30pm.
The victim's car was parked in an open garage at the time.
A parent returning from school pickup was the next targeted in Windhaven Crt at about 3.55pm.
Police said the victim had just exited the vehicle and entered the house. Entering through an open garage door and finding the keys still inside the car, an offender attempted to steal it.
However, after hitting a garbage bin and getting the car stuck, the theft was abandoned. The person ran off with the victim's handbag.
Minutes later, police said four parcels were stolen from the front door of a Meadowbrook Cres house.
A garden statue was reported stolen out of a car in Plenty Drv at about 4.27pm, a handbag from a car parked in a garage in Lantana Ave at 4.30pm and a set of keys from a car parked in Tamar Ave at 4.40pm.
Police said a vehicle matching the Mazda's description committed a petrol drive off at United service station in Queen St at 4.46pm.
The stolen vehicle was located at the Kmart carpark in Hazel Drv at 4.56pm. However, police attempts to intercept the vehicle over were unsuccessful.
The Mazda reportedly collided with the back of another vehicle near the Princes Fwy on-ramp near Bloomfield Rd at 5.04pm. It failed to stop and travelled west. No injuries were reported.
Police located the Mazda in Traralgon at 8.20pm and successfully deployed stop sticks. However, one man fled on foot and escaped arrest.
Police believe three people - two men and one woman - travelled in the stolen Mazda across Warragul.
The men were wearing hoodies and the woman was described as having bleached blonde or grey hair.
The Mazda was originally reported stolen from Traralgon overnight on Wednesday, June 4.
