Warragul will be turned into a winter wonderland when Snowfest Gippsland returns on Friday, July 26.
The heart of Warragul will turn into a winter wonderland for Snowfest Gippsland next month.
This year's event will expand on the night of winter fun, with activities and events stretching over a month-long period - making it a real winter festival.
Now in its sixth year, Snowfest will see snow trucked in from atop Mt Baw Baw Ski Resort to create snow playgrounds for children and adults alike in the Warragul central business district on Friday, July 26.
Carnival rides, food trucks, ice dunking and market stalls will transform Albert, Smith and Palmerston Streets for the night. Aimed at providing something for the entire family, the night will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display in Civic Park.
The month-long expanded program of events will see events in the surrounding towns of Yarragon, Walhalla, Noojee, Trafalgar and Drouin.
Snowfest committee member and event manager Karin Jones hoped the expanded program would be a much needed boost for West Gippsland's business and tourism.
"We wanted to create a festival and bring our surrounding towns into the fold to really show the community and those outside the community what West Gippsland has to offer," Ms Jones said. "We hope the community gets behind the new format and visits our wonderful region over the cooler months."
Mt Baw Baw resort's Christmas in July will kick off events on Saturday, July 20 before the Warragul Farmers' Market and a host of shows at the West Gippsland Arts Centre entice the public out of the comfort of their homes to celebrate winter.
Warragul's restaurants and cafés will get into the spirit, hosting "Snowfest" themed events and special menus, while dozens of other events will continue the winter magic theme through August.
Mid-year Christmas in Yarragon village, "Train of Light" at the Walhalla Goldfields Railway, Noojee heritage precinct open day and Snowfest run and ride finishing in Drouin Civic Park will all form part of the schedule.
Warragul Crownlea director Gloria Castle said she was delighted to be a naming rights partner of Snowfest, labelling it "a wonderful event that brings family and friends together and connects us as a community."
Continuing the event's tradition in giving back to the local community, the West Gippsland Hospital will be rewarded with much needed funds as Snowfest's 2024 charity partner.
A special fundraising dinner and auction will be held at Hogget Kitchen on Saturday, July 27. Messmates restaurant in Warragul also will host a Snowfest dinner on Saturday, August 3, with a portion of each ticket sale to be donated to the hospital.
