There's less than 100 days to go until this year's edition of the Geoff Watt Memorial Fun Run as organiser Kathy Watt is encouraging locals to get involved.
Participants can take on a whole host of distances when the event kicks off on Sunday October 26, ranging from 400m all the way to a hilly half marathon.
There also will be a kids clinic for youngsters to learn and hone their athletic skills hosted by two former Australian champions in Gus Puopolo and Gerrard Keating.
Puopolo is a former Olympic throwing coach and was a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist in the hammer throw, while Keating has sprinted at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships.
Kathy, the daughter of the event's namesake, was recently joined by a host of young female athletes at the Geoff Watt Track, including event ambassadors Grace Graafsma and Zaria Dalton, to help launch the event.
"It was encouraging to see so many girls down at the track loving their athletics," she said.
Other distances on offer at the event include 10km, 5km and 2.5km.
Every entrant will receive a medal and gift pack which includes a $50 Active Feet gift voucher. Other prizes will be on offer for the best young achievers and best costumes.
Apex Club and Rotary Club will be on hand to help out, including running a barbeque.
Watt said now was the time to get signed up and get training, particularly for those taking on the longer courses.
"The half marathon is pretty hilly which often takes people by surprise so they should start running now," she said.
"Get training, get your entries in and hopefully it's a fun day for everyone."
