Rawson police station doubt
1 min read

The Rawson police station is one that could be closed if the State Government proceeds with plans to eliminate one-person stations in rural areas.
Speaking in Parliament last week Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath said Rawson was one of 11 in Gippsland and 98 across the state that faced closure.
Loch and Lang Lang stations were among the others.

Ms Bath, one of several to speak in parliament against the move, said rural areas need more, not less, police.
She said the small communities in Gippsland that have one police officer are in prime agricultural areas and have streams of passing tourists passing through on roads that are poorly maintained with safety a serious issue for locals and unsuspecting visitors.
"The loss of a single officer in those areas would undoubtedly lead to an increase in crime and put further pressure on incident response times and sent a signal that safety and protection of rural communities doesn't matter," she said.
Ms Bath said the government's plans to relocate police to larger regional hubs and cities was to "prop up" rosters at 24-hour a day stations and was merely a Band-Aid fix for failed policy and poor decisions that had resulted in police officers leaving the force in record numbers.
