For 75 years, Claire Henshall brought music to the lives of more people than she ever imagined. If only she had known the gift of a piano from her father when she was 10-years-old would one day earn her a Medal of the Order of Australia.
Claire's OAM was announced in yesterday's King's Birthday honours. The 96-year-old Warragul woman humbly admitted "it's a great honour...but I was a bit embarrassed."
The OAM was for service to the community of Warragul, recognising Claire's lengthy service as organist for St Joseph's Catholic Parish, pianist for Marist Brothers and Sion College and her service to the Warragul Football Netball Club of which she is a life member.
It is just over 12 months since Claire retired from her weekly commitment o
