A new $3.9 million pavilion is taking shape at Dowton Park with expectations the finished product will put Yarragon on the sporting map.
Baw Baw Shire reported construction of the new pavilion was well underway at the recreation reserve following demolition of the existing outdated facility earlier this year. Works are expected to be completed by March next year - in time for the football and netball season.
A concrete slab has been poured and both the structural steel and lightweight framing are now in place. Preparations also are underway for roof truss installation and electical mains have been connected. Water connection is scheduled soon.
In addition, the separate timekeeper's room and coaches' boxes are nearing completion.
East ward councillor Adam Sheehan said the new pavilion would help put Yarragon on the map for junior and senior footy, netball and cricket.
"We recently had a site walk-through which gave us a great opportunity to see the emerging structure and visualise the layout of each room," Cr Sheehan said. "The quality of the work is exceptional."
"Once completed, this new facility will provide a welcome boost to grassroots sport for the Yarragon community and surrounds," he said.
The next few months will see installation of plaster walls, concrete pavements and connecting paths, internal fit outs and other essential service connections.
Mayor Danny Goss said it was great to see more valuable sporting infrastructure underway in Yarragon.
"This facility is a great example of all three levels of government working together to deliver the infrastructure that local communities want, need and deserve," Cr Goss said.
