Park masterplan on hold
1 min read

Finalisation of a 10-year masterplan for a Drouin park has been put on hold to ensure the community wasn't given false hope.
Cr Ben Lucas moved to defer the Alex Goudie Park masterplan decision to a future Baw Baw Shire meeting due to some contention about the masterplan scope and cost.
Detailing 30 projects totalling an estimated $688,000, Cr Lucas said it was important the councillor group consider the budget and ability to bring projects to fruition.
"We don't want to set the community up for failure," he said.
"We don't want to give them false hope."
Cr Lucas said it wasn't a pet project of his but it was for Cr Tricia Jones, who was an apology on the night, as well as others in the community.
"We actually want to deliver something down there, I want to make that clear," he added. "It's important that we give this a little bit of time and space, revisit it, and then hopefully set us up so we can deliver something in the future."
Alex Goudie Park is one of Drouin's well used parks. Adjoining Montague Ave, the park was laid out in 1950 as a place for enjoying a variety of activities.
Its long tree avenues and bushy areas remain largely unchanged.
An officer report said the 10-year masterplan provided a balance of preserving the park's unique environmental assets and accommodating needs of a growing population. It was created after a community member made a budget submission to construct a boardwalk through park bushland at Snake Gully.
Councillors unanimously voted to defer the masterplan decision. It will be discussed at a future council meeting no later than December 10.
