A long-serving Latrobe City councillor has been appointed to new chair of Regional Development Australia (RDA) Gippsland.
Cr Kellie O'Callaghan's appointment was announced jointly by the state and federal governments.
A councillor since 2008 including four terms as mayor she has also chaired a health service board and regional advocacy group One Gippsland and is currently chair of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Interim Body Gippsland.
RDAs bring together all levels of government to support development of infrastructure and industry and regional growth.
In Gippsland the body's key priorities including clean energy, the closure of native timber industry and growth of the food and fibre, manufacturing, defence, health and knowledge services and a circular economy.
Cr O'Callaghan said the partnership of all levels of government enabled a focus on collective strengths to identify placed based solutions to improve liveability and opportunities for Gippsland.
It would do that in collaboration with RDA Gippsland members, partners and community stakeholders.
