A chance encounter between Trafalgar resident Pam Rankin and Trafalgar Men's Shed members at a garage sale led to the successful restoration of a treasured family heirloom.
The heirloom is a T. Robinson and Co. chaff cutter, manufactured in Melbourne in 1866 and has been in Pam's family since the 19th century after it was purchased by her great grandfather Peter Hunter.
The Hunter family's presence in Gippsland dates back to 1816 when Peter's father (also Peter) arrived from Durham in the United Kingdom. Peter selected land at Tanjil South in 1879 and it was around this time the machine was purchased.
