Men's Shed brings new life into kindergarten bridge

Warragul Community Preschool welcomed back an old feature of its playground recently thanks to some hard work by members of the Warragul Men's Shed.
The kindergarten in Mouritz St, Warragul is noted for its beautiful and interactive playground. However, a wooden bridge across the playground had been out of commission for some time due to wear and tear and students were not able to use it for safety reasons.
Thanks to an ongoing relationship with the Warragul Men's Shed, the bridge received a complete overhaul with new merbau decking reinstalled and covered with non-slip flooring tape. Members from the Men's Shed met onsite last month to re-launch the bridge with some of the staff and children from the pre-school.
The Australian Men's Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1200 Men's, Women's and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia's largest male-based community development organisations.
As well as providing a place for people to catch up and support each other other, the sheds' perform community work via various activities such as woodwork, metal work or other "handy" operations.
Warragul Men's Shed meet every Wednesday for a chat and a barbecue and work on a variety of community projects. Member Gary Rush said the group was talking to the pre-school about other possible projects.
The Warragul club's main focus at the moment is on woodwork projects.
Other projects it has completed in recent times include a large outdoor picnic table for Monash Rural, cabinetry work for the Headway Group and other projects for community groups such as the Warragul Toy Library and members are currently working on equipment for the Warragul Community Pre-school.
