Giving a voice to people in remote areas is what has driven Bunyip's Max Papley as he was recognised for decades of community work with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) yesterday.
A Cardinia Shire councillor in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Max played a large role in establishing a number of township committees to help residents in outer areas to have their concerns heard at council level.
He also was a major factor in the creation of the Lang Lang Bendigo Community Bank. Max was the volunteer director for the bank for more than 20 years, overseeing projects that saw more than $10 million re-invested to the community.
