The 60-year tradition of Longwarry's Anzac Day ceremony being held on the Sunday before the official date will continue this weekend.
Despite this year clashing with Easter, the service will go ahead on Sunday at 2pm at the cenotaph next to the town's railway crossing.
President Kevin Stephens said the commemoration at Longwarry of the first landing of Australian troops at Gallipoli on the Sunday before April 25 was introduced to enable veterans, especially from the World Wars, to attend the march and service held in Melbourne on Anzac Day.
It has continued ever since.
Guest speaker this year will be Sophie Sierak, whose grandfather was with the 6th Battalion of the Australian Imperial Forces and among the Anzacs that landed at Gallipoli, and whose father Longwarry RSL secretary, Norm Sierak, served with the Royal Australian Navy in Vietnam on HMAS Hobart.
Also a tradition at Longwarry for many years will be a performance by the Cardinia Concert Band at an afternoon tea following the service.
At Warragul RSL, also on Sunday, there will be a special event for veterans of Australia's involvement in the war in Vietnam.
Starting at 5pm, it will mark the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of the last Australian troops from Vietnam.
There will be a special guest speaker but the highlight will be the uncorking of two earthenware crocks of tawny port that were encased in a glass and timber time capsule created by a group of district veterans from the conflict with their wish that it be opened - and drunk - on the 50th anniversary.
The crocks feature Australian and Vietnamese military artwork.
The function is open to Vietnam veterans, widows and direct family members.
