Local chemists in crime wave

Two people were arrested following a wave of crime across Trafalgar, Drouin and Inverloch in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police allege the duo travelled in a stolen car to target three stores, stealing an estimated $10,000 in perfume from two local chemists and $12,000 in alcohol from an Inverloch bottle shop.
They are still investigating if a third person was involved in the three commercial burglaries.
Police reported a dark blue Skoda, matching the description of a vehicle reported stolen from Cape Patterson on Tuesday, September 30, attended at Direct Chemist in Trafalgar at 1.30am.
It is alleged a back glass door was kicked in to gain entry. Once inside, a perfume cabinet was smashed and a bag filled with perfume bottles. The value of the perfume was estimated at $5000.
The stolen Skoda was next reported being seen at the Esplanade Hotel in A'Beckett St, Inverloch at about 2am.
After failed attempts to remove a glass sliding door with a tool, police allege the door was forcibly kicked in to gain entry and an estimated 100 bottles of alcohol stolen valued at $12,000.
The third commercial burglary was reported at Terry White Chemist in Princes Way, Drouin.
It is alleged hinges from a door were removed to gain entry at about 3.20am. Again, a perfume display cabinet was found smashed and perfume valued at about $5000 reported stolen.
Following a joint investigation by Bass Coast and Baw Baw crime investigation units as well as uniform police from multiple stations, a 16-year-old boy from Bass Coast and a 22-year-old Leongatha man were arrested last week.
Police said a stolen vehicle allegedly used in the burglaries - as well as multiple supermarket, general store and service station burglaries in South Gippsland last week - was recovered.
Stolen items valued at almost $100,000 also were seized by police and returned to affected businesses.
The boy was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft, driving whilst disqualified and handling stolen goods. He was bailed to appear at a children's court at a later date.
The man was charged with handling stolen goods, possessing cocaine, possessing a controlled weapon and possessing proceeds of crime. He was bailed to appear at Korumburra Magistrates' Court on December 11.
Investigation and response manager detective inspector Leigh Balthazaar said the return of allegedly stolen items was "a great outcome for local business owners who've been through a tough week."
