A group of avid knitters from Abbey Gardens Aged Care in Warragul recently donated a basket of handmade items to Olivia's Place in Drouin.
Called the "Knitting Nannies", the group of Abbey Gardens residents come together every Friday afternoon for a bit of craft and company.
The group is led by lifestyle assistant Janine Jones, with the intention of encouraging residents to be creative and form new friendships.
"We get all our knitters together," Janine said. "And people that haven't knitted for a long time, we get them back on the horse and get knitting again."
"We even have some in the group that don't knit, they just come for a cuppa and a bit of company. It gets them together and talking, they find things in common and develop friendships."
Recently, the "Knitting Nannies" decided they wanted to donate some of their knitting creations to Olivia's Place. Together, they created a care package of baby blankets, teddy bears and hats.
As well as creating pieces for Olivia's Place, the group members work on their own knitting projects each week, teaching each other different techniques and patterns along the way.
"The patterns they create in the wool when they knit are just next level, they're a very talented group of ladies," Janine said. "They're teaching each other as well; some of them don't know how to crochet so they get together and teach each other."
The "Knitting Nannies" have even taught Janine how to knit, enabling her to create a baby blanket for her grandchild last year.
