A bushfire outbreak in the area a month ago and a strong recruitment campaign joined forces to inspire an influx of new members to the Erica fire brigade.
Brigade Captain Russell Wright said the brigade's active membership had swelled 50 per cent in recent weeks to now number 30.
Most of the new members are younger - under 40 years of age - and half are female.
Mr Wright said fire fighter numbers had steadily declined, especially since just before and during COVID, as members aged.
The recent boost to brigade numbers was the largest in about 10 years, he said.
The brigade has weekly training sessions and a general meeting once a month.
