Horror Mother’s Day crash

A Dandenong North woman died in a horror Mother's Day collision at Trafalgar on Sunday night.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the fatal two car collision at the intersection of North Canal Rd and Willow Grove Rd at 5.55pm.
The 49-year-old mother died at the scene while her husband and two teenage children, both back seat passengers, sustained serious injuries.
The family of four was travelling west along North Canal Rd in a Toyota Corolla.
After colliding with a Hyundai Tucson travelling north along Willow Grove Rd, their vehicle left the road, rolling down an embankment adjacent to the intersection.
The woman who was a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene.
Police said the 52-year-old driver, a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, all from Dandenong North, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver and one of the passengers were airlifted.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 60-year-old Yarragon man, sustained minor injuries while the passenger, a 58-year-old Yarragon woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Investigations into the collision remain ongoing.
Speaking to media, detective sergeant Mark Amos said it appeared the vehicle driven by the Dandenong North man may have travelled through a stop sign.
"It's just an absolute tragedy that we've got the loss of a life, a wife, a mother - on Mother's Day - is killed in a crash that just should never ever have occurred.
"Just a moment of inattention, a moment's distraction, you go through a stop sign and you ruin your life and the lives of your family," det sgt Amos said.

A 68-year-old Longwarry man died on Westernport Rd at Ripplebrook on January 1, a 70-year-old Heyfield man on Tyers-Walhalla Rd at Jacob Creek on January 18 and a 35-year-old Warragul man at Burke St, Warragul on April 27.
