Donate to appeal to help locals

Salvation Army Warragul volunteers and Drouin Lions Club members will be out in the community over the next couple of weeks giving Warragul and Drouin communities the opportunity to donate to its annual Red Shield Appeal.
Volunteer collectors will be at Bunnings Warragul, outside Woolworths in Drouin and Warragul and in Centrepoint Warragul.
Money raised remains in the Warragul community to support some of the Salvation Army programs that help community members including Doorways Community Support which provides assistance with vouchers for food and other necessary items following an over the phone assessment.
Red Shield funds also go to purchase food items which help people until they receive their next payment.
Doorways case manager Jemma Brown said she was meeting more and more people who found themselves in a crisis situation due to an increase in basic financial responsibilities, food insecurity, family violence, medical bills due to health issues, people needing homelessness support and some who suddenly find themselves with an unexpected bill because of white goods or a car breaking down.
On Tuesdays there is Salvos Brunch that runs from 9.30am to 11am at Warragul Salvation Army, 120 Burke St. This is open to community members to enjoy a free breakfast and at the same time be able to engage in friendly conversation with others.
"We are always looking at other ways we can support people who need assistance," Major Jenni Frost said. "Donations from the Red Shield Appeal also contributes to funding new programs for community members needing a hand up to engage in."
Major Frost said the generosity of the Warragul and Drouin communities was always appreciated and funds donated would provide the hope people need. Donations can be made in cash, eftpos or using the QR code.
