A Baw Baw Shire councillor has indicated his intention to oppose the proposed social housing development in Lampard Rd, Drouin because it was in the wrong location and would add to existing traffic congestion.
Cr Ben Lucas used social media last week to voice his concerns about the proposed Housing Choices Australia (HCA) development.
The planning application will be determined by the State Government, not council. The applicants held a preliminary hearing with Baw Baw Shire to discuss the development concept, followed by a second meeting to discuss updated draft plans in September.
However, Cr Lucas said he would take the matter to council with a view to formally object to the application.
Cr Lucas made it clear he supported social housing projects - "the best communities in the world uplift their most vulnerable, take care of them and give them a leg up to help them move on in life."
But, he said the proposed development was "not fit for purpose" on a corner block where there was already traffic congestion.
"We don't want to add to this traffic congestion nightmare," h
