Two livestock transporters have recently pleaded guilty to animal cruelty offences in separate cases prosecuted by Agriculture Victoria.
The two Magistrate Court hearings considered charges of animal cruelty relating to rough handling of calves during unloading at abattoirs.
Agriculture Victoria animal health and welfare compliance officer Daniel Bode said transporters had a responsibility to ensure calves were fit for the journey ahead, protected from cold and heat and handled appropriately during loading and unloading.
