Reappointed Baw Baw Shire mayor Danny Goss is keen to "get cracking" after returning from a 21-day suspension last week.
Cr Goss was unanimously returned as mayor in a quick and straightforward council meeting on Friday morning lasting less than 10 minutes.
Due to a late date change, only five councillors attended and Cr Goss was put forward as the only candidate.
Wrapping up the meeting, he thanked Cr Tricia Jones for stepping up as acting mayor, fellow councillors, staff and the community.
"The support I've received over the last three or four weeks has been absolutely incredible," Cr Goss said.
"It's just unbelievable really. It does give you the strength to carry on."
Putting the suspension behind him, Cr Goss said he had started work on Thursday to catch up on briefing notes and hundreds of emails.
"We're only part way through the year, and we've got to get cracking," he said. "There's so much more to do, so many more boxes to tick."
"Let me assure you that the council will continue its hard work and continue where we left off. And, we will always be thinking of the ratepayers of the Baw Baw Shire first and foremost."
Cr Goss' suspension followed an internal arbitration process which found he breached local government standards with abusive and threatening behaviour during meetings last year; a councillor-only meeting in March and a council meeting in April.
The finding followed allegations from three former councillors, including past mayor Annemarie McCabe, lodged on May 31 last year.
Baw Baw Shire said a mayoral election was required following any vacancy in the office of mayor.
In an unanimous decision, Crs Ben Lucas, Jess Hamilton, Suzanne Allen and Jones voted for Cr Goss to resume as mayor.
The meeting was originally set to be held before Wednesday's council meeting. As a result, Cr Goss said Cr Paul Pratt, Brendan Kingwill, Kate Wilson and Adam Sheehan couldn't attend at late notice "but have indicated their support from afar."
The 2024/25 mayoral term concludes in November.
