Barry Ward with his mother Gwen Ward on her 104th birthday.
The oldest resident at Fairview Homes turned 104 last Wednesday.
Gwen Ward, a Warrragul resident of more than 70 years, attributes the milestone to enjoying "everything in moderation."
To celebrate her special day Mrs Ward enjoyed an afternoon tea, including delicious carrot cake, at Fairview Village and enjoyed a hamburger for lunch.
Her son Barry Ward attended the celebration and said his mum had done "pretty well" to reach the milestone.
Mrs Ward was born in Melbourne but moved to Warragul, where she and husband Reginald built their family home in O'Dowds Rd.
Mr Ward was a bricklayer and builder, so the pair waited until they had enough materials to build their own home, which they built close to Warragul North Primary School.
She moved into Fairview Village in an independent unit 11 years ago and recently moved into the village's aged care facility.
Mrs Ward has two children, Barry and Geoff, and six grandchildren, Jenny, David, Helen, Joanne, Adam and Felicity.
She also has 11 great-grandchildren.
While Mrs Ward spent much of her life caring for her children and her home, she also spent 25 years serving the community as a volunteer at Mawarra Opportunity Shop.
To celebrate Ms Ward's special day, staff at Fairview put together a display of events that happened the year she was born in 1919.
Included on the wall were the births of notable celebrities, the Treaty of Versailles, and the year Albert Einstein tested his Theory of Relativity using a solar eclipse.
