Crossing with care for 25 years
1 min read

A Warragul school crossing supervisor has surpassed 25 years in the job, helping kids arrive safely at school every day.

Warragul North Primary School crossing supervisor Carol Le Brocq has become well-known by parents and students who use the O’Dowds Road crossing each morning and learns the names of everyone on their way to school.

“It takes me a couple of times but once they’re locked in, they’re in. And then I can normally remember them for the rest of my life, seeing them down the street when they’re adults and everything,” Ms Le Brocq said.

Ms Le Brocq began working in 1995 and has now begun supervising her first grandson.

“He started school and I’ve got two other grandkids that will eventually come here too,” she said.

At 56 years old, she hopes to see her grandkids through their primary school journey and hopes to be at the crossing for much longer.

“I’m putting kids of kids I used to put through so that’s pretty special and if I’m here a bit longer it could be happening for a third generation,” she said.

During her career, Ms Le Brocq’s mother got sick and needed care. Having the middle of the day free allowed her to spend valuable time with her mother before she died.

Now, she uses that spare time to care for her grandchildren, walk her puppy, and spending time with her partner.

The job has also been a good outlet during the pandemic.

“It’s being around people, forming friendships, and being around children really does lift your spirits no matter what mood you’re in, children can do that just by talking to you.

“I feel very lucky and very special to have so much love given to me,” she said.
