A number of native trees were planted at the Bunyip recreation reserve on National Tree Day at the end of last month as part of a project to create a picnic garden.
The Bunyip Community Market Committee is spearheading the project that president Tpony Arrigo said would eventually be an ideal place for family gatherings, outdoor weddings and a place for local and visitors to relax in pleasant surroundings.
The site adjacent to the rotunda/barbecue area will be named the Bunyip and District Community Market Picnic Garden.
As well as native trees and shrubs picnic tables and seating will be installed.
Mr Arrigo said the garden project has already received great support within the community.
