A man armed with a hammer was arrested after forcing entry into a Warragul unit on Thursday night.
Police allege the man smashed a window to enter the unit at about 11.30pm. The occupants were not home at the time.
After hearing banging noises, a neighbour observed the man walking with a hammer on CCTV and notified police.
Police attended and found a bedroom window smashed. Whilst searching the house, they heard a noise in a bathroom and located a 28-year-old Warragul man armed with a hammer.
He was arrested without incident, however, was transported to West Gippsland Hospital with cuts on his legs from the broken glass.
The man was charged and bailed to appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court on December 1.
