Member for Monash Mary Aldred has called on the Federal Government to "get its act together" and finalise framework to support the future of regional media.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Tuesday night, Ms Aldred urged the government to take action and address the News Media Assistance Program (News MAP) and the News Bargaining Incentive, emphasising the important role local newspapers played in regional areas.
"In triumph and tragedy, there's someone who always turns up for regional Australia, and that's the local newspaper," Ms Aldred said. "Across towns and regions throughout Australia, the local paper weaves the threads that hold communities together."
"Local news keeps people connected not just to events but to one another."<
