An $11.7 million expansion of Drouin Secondary College was the headline item for West Gippsland in last week's State Government budget.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing was at the school on Tuesday morning to deliver the budget news.
The $11.7 million funding promise came ahead of the 2022 state election and has been awaiting funding.
The funding will upgrade buildings and modernise facilities to keep up with community growth and an increasing student population.
Ms Shing said the works would build on previous enhancements already undertaken at the college including the multi-purpose area and would ensure the ever growing college could move away from its reliance on portable classrooms.
"Drouin Secondary College has 1149 students this year and is continuing to grow so the new classrooms and learning spaces will make a world of difference, not just for students but also for teachers and staff.
"We want to make sure kids reach their full potential and that teachers and staff have the facilities that match their dedication and commitment.
The works will complete a major upgrade and expansion of the school that previously included flexible learning areas and comfortable outdoor spaces for recreation and learning.
Seven new classrooms with flexibility for large or small groups were built, as well as a central breakout and collaborative learning space. A canteen with internal and external seating areas also was part of the previous works.
Ms Shing said planning and design works by the Victorian School Building Authority was almost completed and works would get underway almost immediately.
"As we finish off the $22 million rebuild of Drouin Primary School, we will continue the work at Drouin Secondary College," she said.
Ms Shing said the Drouin school was continuing to grow and served a catchment from Pakenham to West Gippsland and down to Poowong.
She praised the work of everyone who had advocated for the project.
The budget also allocated $500,000 to help Warragul North Primary School plan for future growth.
