Marist-Sion host cricket carnival
2 min read

Marist-Sion College finished third overall when it hosted the 48th Australia and New Zealand Marist Cricket Carnival earlier this month.
The Warragul school hosted students from across Australia, including Newman College in Perth, Assumption College in Kilmore, Sacred Heart College in Adelaide and Trinity Catholic College in Lismore.
Sacred Heart in Auckland withdrew from the high-level cricket tournament, leaving five teams to play each other over the five days. Other Marist Cricket Carnivals ran concurrently in Bendigo and Canberra.
Games were played at Western Park in Warragul, Bellbird Park in Drouin and Hallora Recreation Reserve.
On day one, Marist-Sion College had a comfortable win against Trinity Catholic College. With Lismore and their school decimated by floods, many senior players were unavailable and a very young team travelled.
Marist-Sion bowled Trinity out for 90 and got the runs with one wicket down. For the bowlers, Dane Hammond gained 3-3 off 2.4 overs and Lane Ward 2-30 off seven overs.
On their way to 1/91, the local team had Patrick Sheehan 31 not out and Keegan Friedlander 34 not out.
After a rest day, Marist-Sion set a solid total of 8/213 against Sacred Heart College on the back of fine hands from Ward (64) and Sheehan (44).
William Auldist, Friedlander and Ward all shared in the bowling spoils with two wickets each. They bowled out Sacred Heart for 180.
Despite a majestic ton from Ward, Marist-Sion fell four runs short of Assumption College's 223 in an enthralling game on day four.
After being in trouble at 4-40, Marist-Sion rallied to 8-219 with Lane scoring 119 and Liam Lisle 30.
Ben Allsop with 2-28 and Harrison Radcliffe 3-44 were the pick of the bowlers.
Coming into day five, Newman College had three wins and both Marist-Sion and Assumption had two wins. All games held genuine weight in deciding the carnival champions.
In the field to start against Newman College, Marist-Sion bowled the Western Australian team out for 160 in the 48th over. However, unable to get some partnerships established, the team was bowled out for 113.
Friedlander starred with 4-40 with the ball and 24 with the bat. Ward again high-scored with 35.
With Assumption defeating Sacred Heart, Marist-Sion College finished third overall.
