Putting on a samurai headband and learning about Bushido during a National Gallery of Victoria visit was the highlight for Longwarry Primary School year five student Tiarnee Browney and acting principal Paula Johnston.
The fascinating world of the Japanese samurai was explored during a recent National Gallery of Victoria visit to Longwarry Primary School.
Students in years three to six enjoyed an illustrated talk featuring images of works in the gallery collection with the visiting educators. They also participated in a workshop to create samurai helmets using a variety of materials.
The presentation made links to the school’s Japanese language and visual arts programs as it explored the cultural and artistic aspects of samurai traditions.
Student feedback stated the visit was interesting and enjoyable.
