Warragul's newest retail centre may open as early as next week if intersection upgrade works at Queen St and Hazel Drv are given the all-clear by authorities.
While a number of the new retail tenants are hoping for a July 10 opening, Baw Baw Shire permit conditions state the intersection upgrade "must be completed before the use or occupancy commences."
The retail centre will include Harvey Norman, Spotlight, Harris Scarfe, Rebel Sport and Banjo's Bakery Cafe.
Drouin company A1 Civil was contracted to undertake the civil works for the intersection while the UCS Group will install traffic lights.
A1 Civil construction manager Mark Leighton said the crews were working hard to deliver the project on time for Becon Constructions.
"It has been a really good team effort between Becon, UCS and us to keep the job progressing," he said.
Works were setback because of a need to relocate a number of existing utility services in order to meet the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) plans.
However, Mr Leighton was confident the Queen St and Hazel Drv intersection works, and access to a loading bay from Queen St would be delivered "on time."
A turning lane to provide access to the commercial centre from Queen St will be delayed while services are relocated.
It will be up to council and the department to sign off on the completed works to allow the retail centre to open.
Both council and the DTP confirmed they were working with the developer on finalisation of the project.
Approval for the plan for roadworks, including installation of traffic lights, was not received by Becon from the DTP until late February.
The department stated when developers were delivering works on the DTP road network, they were required to meet strict standards set out by the department's technical guidelines.
