Moot court assists with legal studies
1 min read

Class of 2006 alumna Jessica Hotchkin returned to St Paul's Anglican Grammar School for a day to share her knowledge of practising law with VCE legal studies students and selected debating students.
Students engaged with Jessica throughout the day as they covered topics such as legal elements and lawful excuse. They also applied their legal theory knowledge to a mock case, gaining a sense of what it might be like to work on a real legal case.
The day culminated with a moot court session, where students worked together to vie either for the prosecution or the appellant. Each counsel presented arguments based on the two grounds of the case, with Jessica acting as the judge and guiding them through the process.
Jessica said she hoped the students "learned something new" and felt "more empowered" in understanding what it was like to be a practising lawyer.
St Paul's regularly invites past students working in the community and further afield to return to the school to inspire students about their career options.
