The Creative Art Textile group is the latest in a continuous stream of monthly exhibitions to be hosted by the Baw Baw Arts Alliance at the Station Gallery in Yarragon.
The monthly exhibitions range from the work of individual artists to group exhibitions, often the result of specific groups meeting in the ArtSpaces at Trafalgar Railway Station and the Warragul VRI Hall.
The Creative Art Textile group led by fibre artists Janine Richardson and Cheryl Cook is one of the regular and collaborative groups to feature in the exhibitions.
Together, with participants, Christine Tandy, Yvonne Pywell, Eileen Powell, Margaret Clarke and June Dolan, Janine and Cheryl have collaborated in an exciting artwork that had its origins in swathes of white fabric wrapped around trees in Yarragon for many months. This 'bombing' of the trees with white fabric has resulted in unexpected and beautifully subtle colours from the tree trunks.
Members of the group have used naturally dyed fabric as a background for postcard size artworks. The postcard sized pieces have been attached to the fabric and will be sold separately. Each postcard has natural inks in a similar tonal range to the tree dyed textiles, is embellished with stitching and some black ink drawings of Australian animals. Member, Christine Tandy, has her meticulously felted gum leaves stitched to the backing fabric to add a third dimension to the work. The inks have been produced from a wide range of different vegetation with some unexpected results.
The exhibition of these is in the 'Station Gallery', Yarragon, hanging in the discrete section know as 'On the Wall', during May.
Also in May at the 'Station Gallery' is an exciting range of work from members of BBAA and other contributors to an exhibition titled 'Treasured'. Artists have challenged themselves to produce a wide range of interesting, colourful and invigorating works of art from a mounted Kewpie doll to pastel drawings, pictures of bumble bees to cut-out books and vibrant paintings of flowers. Expect to be surprised.
