Five years of WAS Gallery
1 min read

In celebration of the WAS Gallery's fifth anniversary, a special exhibition featuring work from 28 different artists is currently on display.
All artists involved have previously exhibited at WAS, most are from Gippsland but some hail from from Melbourne, Ballarat, Adelaide and as far as Port Douglas.
Each artist has contributed two pieces of work to the exhibition.
The collection combines a wide range of media, including painting, ceramics, photography, print making, woodwork, mosaic, sculpture, drawing and assemblages.
It was quite a feat to curate but the exhibition has been successfully brought together by Anne Lorraine and Gary McPhedran who have overseen the installation of all WAS Gallery's exhibitions.
For five years WAS has showcased the work of local artists and brought artists from around Victoria and interstate to Warragul. The character filled building at 37 Latrobe Street provides an excellent venue to show wide ranging artworks with artists and visitors expressing how much they enjoy the building's ambience and style.
To help celebrate the milestone, WAS will host a special event on Saturday October 11. Titled "What Art and Why Art" the afternoon will include a variety of artists' talks, running from 1pm to 4pm. The even is also an opportunity to see the exhibition with some of the artists.
"What Art and Why Art" has been supported by Baw Baw Shire through an Arts and Culture Fund grant.
Numbers are limited but some tickets are still available and can be purchased at http://www.trybooking.com/DAHES
Full price tickets are $20 and concession, senior and student tickets are $10.
Planning is already underway for the next five years with 2026 featuring a gallery space reserved for displaying WAS Gallery family artworks, including ceramics by Judy Lorraine and paintings by Hans Lorraine.
WAS Gallery is open from Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
