Artists across West Gippsland will open their studios for the public to visit and explore this weekend as part of Open Studios West Gippsland.
Between 10am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, 16 local studios will be open, covering a wide range of artistic mediums including ceramic and wooden sculpture, paintings and prints, jewellery and much more.
Visitors can purchase a $10 weekend pass and take themselves on a self-guided tour through as many studios as they want.
Open Studios organiser and participating artist Sue Acheson said the weekend provided an opportunity to learn what happened behind the scenes in a studio.
"It gives visitors an insight into what happens behind the artwork, whether it's painting or printmaking or sculpture or ceramics, that there's so many different things that happen behind the scenes," Sue said.
"Instead of just seeing the final result, which is lovely, you get more of an insight into how it's actually made or produced, what the inspiration is behind it, and the stories behind each piece, because there's always a back story. Each artist is vastly different from the others."
In addition to meeting local artists, Sue said the Open Studios weekend encouraged people to explore the West Gippsland region.
"It gives you a chance to travel around our beautiful area and find different places to visit," Sue said. "You will see scenery that you've never seen before, properties where the artists live that aren't normally open to the public. It's an experience that you can't repeat."
The Open Studios West Gippsland weekend will take place this Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27.
The full list of participating artists and a map of their studios can be found online at openstudioswestgippsland.com.au
Passes can be purchased via the website or at the open studios using cash only.
