Baw Baw Arts Alliance will host "The Arts Gala" this Saturday evening at the VRI Hall in Warragul.
Described as a smorgasbord of entertainment, fancy dress and food, Baw Baw Arts Alliance president Jessie McLennan said the evening would feature a collection of different styles of performance art.
Jessie recommended anyone interested in the arts and challenging their perspectives to purchase a ticket and attend the event.
"It will be run a bit like a medley of interesting – and absurd sometimes – performances," Jessie said. "It will be lots of fun."
Jessie said part of the inspiration for the event was to provide a different type of experience in Warragul, something "a little bit cutting-edge – unusual".
"It's kind of a little bit of a taster for what we can do," Jessie said. "If there are other people in the community that are also performing artists or conceptual artists that would like to be part of it, this is not just a one off, we're going to do it again next year."
Attendees are encouraged to come along dressed up as an artist, or an artwork, or just wear a fancy hat.
The line up for the evening will include a performance art piece by Russell Lilford, a musical theatre piece by Malcom McCaffery, a spoken word performance by Yvette Stubbs, a musical performance by "quirky singer" Elizabeth, surrealist poetry by Wayne Pollard and a burlesque performance by performer Winnie Wilde.
"Russell is going to be doing a performance art piece that is quite different, it's not theatre, it might get you to question your assumptions about things," Jessie said.
"Local performer and writer Malcom McCaffery - who's currently writing a musical about the Warragul and Drouin Facebook group – is going to perform one of his items from that."
"Yvette Stubbs is working with another poet and she's going to do some spoken word. Elizabeth describes herself as a "quirky singer". She's going to (perform) some of her pieces and some covers. Surrealist poet Wayne Pollard will be performing as a character."
"We also have a Melbourne artist (Winnie Wilde) who is a burlesque dancer. She's going to be doing two performance pieces."
Attendees are asked to bring a plate of food to share and bring their own drinks.
Money raised through ticket sales will be used to contribute to fixing the ramp at the VRI Hall.
"There's almost a different arts activity (at the VRI Hall) every day," Jessie said. "All the funds will be put towards fixing that ramp so it can be accessed by everyone."
"The Arts Gala" will be held at the VRI Hall in Warragul on Saturday, August 9 between 6pm and 9pm.
Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online at https://www.bawbawartsalliance.org.au/bcms/Event/arts-gala/
Attendees are warned the evening will include aspects of nudity.
