Baw Baw Arts Alliance will host a poetry writing workshop and a Poetry Bauhaus event on Sunday, October 5.
International award winning poet Ross Donlon will run the workshop and read his work at the VRI Hall in Warragul, followed by the Poetry Bauhaus event at the Commercial Hotel.
Ross lived in the area for some years when he was an English teacher at Warragul High School. His most recent book is "The Naming of Clouds – 50 ghazals" was recently published in 2025.
Ross' Warragul workshop is called "Catching Poems". There are several exercises designed to produce poems on the spot, and a longer exercise where the class needs to bring an object that has power in memory or feeling.
Ross is widely represented in anthologies both in Australia and the UK. He has read at numerous poetry festivals in Australia, the UK and Ireland. He is also the winner of the Launceston Cup, premier spoken word event of the Tasmanian Poetry Festival. A sequence of poems about his father, The Blue Dressing Gown, was a Radio National program on Poetica.
